The Resilience Of International Trade During The Russia-Ukraine War
Abstract
The Russia–Ukraine war, which has escalated significantly since February 2022, has not only become a regional geopolitical conflict but has also sent shockwaves through the international trading system. Given Russia and Ukraine’s status as key suppliers of energy, food, fertilizers, and strategic commodities, the conflict has impacted trade flows, global supply chains, commodity prices, and economic relations between nations. These conditions raise questions about the international trading system’s ability to maintain economic activity while adapting to geopolitical pressures. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Russia–Ukraine war on the dynamics of international trade and to examine forms of trade resilience in the face of geopolitical shocks during the 2022–2024 period. The study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive-analytical methods through literature review and analysis of secondary data sourced from reports by international organizations, government publications, and relevant academic research. The analysis focuses on changes in trade flows, supply chain disruptions, diversification of trade sources and routes, as well as adaptation strategies employed by countries and economic actors. This study is expected to provide insight into how the international trading system adapts to geopolitical conflicts and to identify factors that support the strengthening of trade resilience.
