Abstract

Job burnout among train drivers poses significant risks to operational safety and employee well-being, yet research examining its psychological predictors in railway contexts remains limited. This study investigates the influence of internal locus of control on job burnout among freight train drivers on the Babaranjang route. Using a quantitative explanatory design, this research employed simple linear regression to examine the causal relationship between these variables. The study population comprised 170 active freight train drivers at PT KAI Regional Division IV Tanjungkarang, with 45 participants selected through purposive sampling based on criteria of active employment status, minimum five years of experience, and voluntary participation. Data were collected using validated Likert-scale instruments adapted from Rotter's internal locus of control theory and Fisher and Loukidou's job burnout framework. Classical assumption tests confirmed that the data met the requirements for regression analysis. Results revealed that internal locus of control significantly and negatively predicted job burnout (F = 52.848, p < 0.001), with a coefficient of determination (R² = 0.551) indicating that internal locus of control explains 55.1% of the variance in job burnout. This finding suggests that internal locus of control serves as a strong psychological predictor of job burnout, while the remaining 44.9% is attributed to other factors including social, organizational, environmental, and individual characteristics
