Abstract : The mutilation case that occurred in the Lidah Wetan area of Surabaya has had widespread psychological impacts, especially for women living near the incident. The extreme violence that occurred close to everyday living spaces triggered collective fear, changes in security perceptions, and disruptions in social interactions. This study aims to understand in depth how collective trauma is experienced and interpreted by women following the mutilation incident in their neighborhood. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The research subjects consisted of five adult women who lived near the incident and experienced psychosocial impacts after the incident. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and field notes to capture the participants' emotional experiences and social context. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis through coding, categorizing, and drawing out key themes. The results identified several key themes, namely the initial dynamics of receiving information about the case, collective trauma characterized by fear of the cruelty of the incident, loss of a sense of security in social space, adaptive psychological coping mechanisms, and the role of social support as an emotional buffer. The findings indicate that trauma stems not only from direct experience but also from spatial and social proximity to the violent incident. This study concludes that collective trauma in women forms profound changes in their sense of safety, social relations, and psychological adaptation strategies in everyday life, so that community-based psychosocial attention that is sensitive to gender and environmental contexts is needed.
