Abstract

The development of the gig economy has created new employment opportunities for women, including working as online motorcycle taxi drivers. In Sidoarjo, many women choose this profession to support their families financially, despite having to face social stigma, safety risks, and income uncertainty. This study aims to describe the dynamics of psychological well-being among female online motorcycle taxi drivers in Sidoarjo. This study employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Participants were selected using purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria, with one significant other included for source triangulation. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that both participants demonstrated relatively positive psychological well-being across all six dimensions, with autonomy and purpose in life emerging as the most prominent dimensions. Meanwhile, self-acceptance required the longest adaptation process before both participants were able to accept this profession as part of their identity. Differences in personal contexts, such as spousal support and single motherhood, also contributed to distinct patterns of psychological dynamics between the two participants.
