1 Journal Statement

JUTEK: Journal of Usability and Technology Engineering Knowledge is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal published by the Faculty of Informatics Engineering, Universitas Darul Ulum (UNDAR), Jombang. The journal disseminates original research, scholarly reviews, and documented engineering innovations in technology, engineering, and usability. JUTEK serves as a scholarly platform on which academics, researchers, and practitioners exchange current knowledge and verifiable solutions supporting the development of effective, innovative, and sustainable technology.

The editorial position of the journal is that technological artefacts must be evaluated not only by their internal engineering performance but also by their measurable usability in the hands of intended users. Accordingly, JUTEK gives particular weight to manuscripts that combine rigorous engineering design or analysis with empirical evidence of usability, reliability, efficiency, or sustainability.

2 Aims

  • To provide an authoritative outlet for original research, systematic literature reviews, and engineering case studies that contribute demonstrably to effective, innovative, and sustainable technology.
  • Knowledge transfer. To connect academics, researchers, industrial practitioners, and policy makers through the exchange of knowledge on the design, implementation, evaluation, and governance of technological systems.
  • User-centred engineering. To promote user-centred research so that the proposed technological solutions are demonstrably useful, usable, accessible, and adoptable by society and industry.
  • Publication quality. To raise the quality of national scientific publication through an objective, transparent, and ethically governed peer-review process.
  • To encourage transparent reporting of data, instrumentation, algorithms, and experimental procedures so that reported results can be independently verified and reproduced.

3 Scope

JUTEK accepts manuscripts across a broad range of engineering and technology disciplines, including but not limited to the following nine thematic areas.

  • Engineering Technology. Research and development in software engineering, systems engineering, computer engineering, telecommunications, electronics, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Design and User Interaction. Human-computer interaction, user interaction design, user experience (UX), user interface (UI) engineering, ergonomics, and accessibility for the creation of user-friendly technology.
  • Computer and Data Science. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, metaheuristic optimisation, data science, computer vision, cybersecurity, and other computing technologies.
  • Information Technology and Systems. Information systems, enterprise IT management, decision support systems, database and data engineering, service-oriented and cloud architectures.
  • Usability and Ergonomics. Usability evaluation and measurement, user testing, heuristic and cognitive walkthrough methods, workload assessment, and cognitive ergonomics supporting optimal human-technology interaction.
  • Education and Knowledge Technology. Educational technology, learning analytics, knowledge management, and digital-based learning environments.
  • Behavioural Science and Technology. The impact of technology on human behaviour, technology psychology, digital habit formation, and socio-technical adoption studies.
  • Policy and Technology Ethics. Policy, regulation, standardisation, governance, and ethical frameworks for technology development in society.
  • Sustainable Technology. Green technology, renewable energy systems, energy efficiency and storage, smart grids, and technological innovation supporting environmental sustainability.

Within these areas, the journal explicitly welcomes contributions on the Internet of Things and embedded systems, including microcontroller-based instrumentation, sensor and actuator networks, and their application to smart agriculture, smart cities, healthcare, and industrial automation; on electrical power and energy engineering, including renewable generation, energy storage, and intelligent control and optimisation; and on industrial, mechanical, and civil engineering technology, including mechatronics, automation, materials engineering, construction technology, and infrastructure systems.

4 Accepted Article Types

  • Research article. A complete report of original empirical, experimental, computational, or design-based research (8-15 pages).
  • Review article. A systematic or critical review that synthesises a defined body of literature and identifies research gaps and future directions.
  • Technical note. A concise report of a novel instrument, prototype, algorithm, dataset, or measurement procedure of demonstrable technical value.
  • Case study. A documented account of technology implementation in an organisational, industrial, or community setting, including evaluation results and lessons learned.

All submissions must be original, must not have been published previously, and must not be under consideration by any other journal in any language.
